Isaac Israels - Special edition. Folder with 8 loose drawings. € 135 - Sold

At the turn of the year 1965-1966, publisher Gebr. Zomers en Keuning (Vada printing house) in close collaboration with the Rijks Museum Kröller Müller in Otterlo, published a file with 8 drawings by Isaac Israëls, executed in the copper intaglio printing process. It was a limited edition exclusively for relations of the publisher / printing house. It concerns both beautiful detailed drawings and some rough sketches.
Miss Drs. E. Joosten, deputy director of the Rijksmuseum Kröller Müller wrote the text about Isaac Israëls and the drawings, printed in both Dutch and English. On the back of each engraving is mentioned the drawing number of the Vada map, the origin and the printing process.

Rare
In the meantime, the few folders that have survived for almost 60 years have become collector's items. We found these at antique shops, but also folders about Vincent van Gogh (1967/68), Jan Toorop (1966/67) Dick Ket (1964/65) and Jean Baptiste Madou (1968/69). These folders also contain beautiful copper intaglio prints in limited editions. While the folders have often discoloured over time, the copper intaglio prints are still in good condition. Where it seems that there are age spots on an intaglio print, this is because they were on the original.

About Copper Intaglio Printing (also called rotogravure). Intaglio printing is a fascinating and versatile printing technique with a rich history and a wide range of applications. Such as the copper intaglio printing presses that Drukkerij Vada had between 1962 and 1981. A graphic printing technique in which the design is engraved on a copper printing cylinder. This process offered a unique combination of precision, detail and texture that is difficult to imitate with other printing techniques. The costs of intaglio printing are very high for small editions, because engraving the cylinder is very expensive.
