- Rare lithograph/poster "painting exhibition de Ploeg in Pictura" made by Hendrik Nicolaas WERKMAN in the 1930s. In good condition (light fold at the top) and in a simple wooden frame.
Werkman (1882-1945), born in Leens, initially worked at a printing company in Sappemeer. He was also a journalist at the Groninger Dagblad and the Nieuwe Groningsche Courant.
He started his own printing company in Groningen in 1908. He started taking photographs in 1896 and drew and painted in 1917. He became a member of the Groningen art circle De Ploeg. Due to financial problems, he established his much-reduced company in a warehouse attic on the Lage der Aa in 1922. There he made his first 'prints' with a very unique technique using ink rollers, stamps and stencils.

During the war he produced numerous prints and started a series of illegal publications with De Blauwe Schuit. The highlight of his work is the Chassidic legends. Werkman was executed in Bakkeveen in 1945.
