Gerrit Rietveld - Two iconic Rietveld design chairs

Red-Blue Chair:
Beautiful miniature production by Gerrit Rietveld and the Netherlands' most famous chair; the slatted chair, or the Red-Blue chair.
The original design of the Red and Blue Chair by Gerrit Rietveld dates from 1917 – 1918, and has a natural wooden finish. Gerrit Rietveld painted his revolutionary chair in 1921 in primary colours as a result of his collaboration with the 'de Stijl' movement and has become an absolute icon of the De Stijl movement.

Steltman Chair:
At the age of 75, Gerrit Rietveld made his last chair: the Steltman chair. The asymmetrical chair, which offers a surprising image from every angle, is typical of Rietveld's design ideas and has become a true design classic!
The graphic lines of the Steltman chair are typical of Rietveld's furniture designs. His strong vision and the principles of the art movement De Stijl are clearly visible.
With the Steltman chair, Rietveld once again proved his status as a groundbreaking designer. The chair owes its name to the Hague jeweler and court supplier Steltman, who commissioned Rietveld in 1963 to renovate and furnish his shop on the Noordeinde in The Hague. As part of the new interior, Rietveld designed two mirrored chairs constructed from a graphic play of lines. From these chairs, customers could select their jewelry and wedding rings. In this context, the chairs also acquired a symbolic meaning: two separate, opposing shapes that together form a unity. The chair on offer is a left-hand Steltman chair.
