Cesar de Cock (Ghent, 1823 – there, 1904) was a Belgian painter and engraver who was mainly active in France. His brother Xavier de Cock was also a painter. Cesar de Cock studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent, first as a singer, but when he was struck by deafness, he devoted himself to painting. He took lessons with François-Louis Français and Edmé-François Daubigny.
Cesar de Cock focused on landscape painting, still lifes, watercolors and genre paintings. During the Franco-Prussian War of 1870, he fled to Deurle and immediately returned to France after the end of the conflict. He spent a short time in Paris and later in Gasny where he had a summer residence. From 1880 he settled permanently in Ghent.
Jean-Baptiste Corot, Henri Rousseau, Narcisse Díaz de la Peña and Constant Troyon were among his friends. These painters, also members of the Barbizon School, had a strong influence on his work.
