Through her husband, the lawyer Guus Belinfante, Willy Belinfante (1922 – 2014) came into contact with the 'official business'. She usually stood there as the 'wife of' watching the receptions, promotions or parties, without getting involved. Her observations as an outsider can later be seen in her work. She herself said about her working method: 'My first aim is to create balance across the board. By drawing on my memories, what is unimportant automatically falls away. I only perceive my own reality once I have painted it. The images come from my deepest inner self. It is not about depicting but about imagining.' Her compositions are complex, although you do not immediately see that. Her narrative paintings and etchings are also rich in colour. A red or a blue sparkles between sombre, dark areas of colour.
Willy Belinfante was the mother of the artist Laetitia de Haas. Laetitia is married to the painter Hendrik Jan Visser. All three have exhibited together repeatedly in Kunstzaal van Heijningen.
