Tilly Moes took classes at the Art Academy in The Hague. She painted still lifes with fruit and flowers, under the pseudonym Tilly Moes, her actual name was Sofia Theodora van Driel. To earn a living, she painted one still life after another while her husband sold them by train and tram. Gradually there were many customers working for her and she found it difficult to meet the demand. Her success continued unabated. The fact that the vast majority of her work went abroad means that there is not much of it left on the Dutch market.
