Robert Cox (1934-2001) born in Mt Holly, New Jersey, studied at the Katharine Gibbs School of Art from 1953 to 1956 and then joined Mayhew Peakes Inc. as a graphic designer.
He found much of his floral design inspiration in California and became one of the most prolific painters of the 1970s and 1980s. He used a palette knife to create his stylized flowers and often sold his paintings for little money because he believed that original art should be available to the general public.
Cox was a founding member of the Art Workers Coalition and very active in promoting artists' rights.
