Richard Meitner is currently (since 2006) Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Masters in Art and Science of Glass at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal (=New University of Lisbon).

He has taught, lectured and given workshops in the USA, UK, Netherlands, Germany, France, Spain, Malta, Portugal, Sweden, Denmark, Italy and Japan.
He has been invited as artist in residence in many countries.

During his career he often worked as a designer for the glass industry in Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Belgium.

Meitner was a member of the National Commission for Art Funds and the National Council for the Art Commission. Together with Mieke Groot he was responsible for the glass department of the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam from 1981 to 2000.

His works have been exhibited worldwide and are included in the permanent collections of more than 50 museums worldwide .

In March 2009, he was honored with a solo exhibition of a large number of his works as the third in the "MASTERS OF STUDIO GLASS" exhibition series at the CORNING MUSEUM OF GLASS in Corning, New York. That exhibition traveled to the Tacoma Museum of Glass in July 2010.

Richard Meitner is currently (since 2006) a visiting professor at the faculty for the Master's program in Art and Science of Glass at the Universidade Nova de Lisbo.
