Léon Savelsberg was een Nederlandse kunstenaar geboren in 1922 en overleden in 1986. Léon leefde uitsluitend voor de kunsten. Hij kon volgens zijn eigen woorden in geen enkel beroep een bestemming voor het leven vinden, behalve in het kunstenaarschap. Savelsberg vond training overbodig en stopte daarom na een paar maanden met de toegepaste kunstacademie en is daarom autodidactisch. Het merendeel van de schilderijen die hij maakte zijn miniaturen van 8 x 8 cm en gouaches op papier die hij met een loep schilderde. Hij verwoordde zijn eigen idee achter dit kleine formaat als volgt: "Als je in een luciferdoosje woont, moet je klein schilderen". Léon was een miniaturist die zijn werken met ongelooflijke precisie vol symboliek en cobra-achtige formele taal maakte.
