Title: Extremadura Technique: Oil on canvas Dimensions: 200x200 cm. Signed K. Salentijn
Kees Salentijn, born 1947, attended the National Academy of Visual Arts in Amsterdam with OB Kat as his mentor.
In the 1980s, Salentijn traveled a lot to Spain. He feels connected to the artists and their different styles and combines the cheerful CoBrA images with the influences of Spanish culture. The death of matador Paguiri is the starting point for Salentijn to make his first corrida paintings. He combined these into the "Les folues d'Espargne" which he exhibited in Amsterdam.
In the late 1980s, Salentijn worked between Venlo and Amsterdam where he stayed with friends. In the early 1990s he moved to an art space in Amsterdam where he began a period of rapid production. His work is characterized by experimental use of pencils, pens, gouaches and acrylic, all in combination with graphics and graphics. There is no 'better than' and bases his style on the denial of this principle.
Salentijn draws his inspiration from Spain, the culture, the landscape, the beaches, etc. His works always have Spanish titles. In the early 1990s he moved into a studio near the capital and began his period of rapid creation. Coherence, collage, drawing and painting as a continuous expression of his creativity.
