Smoothly painted landscape in the Donkervliet area by Jan Sluijters junior. He had inherited the smooth touch from his father. And had even more than his father the talent for landscapes and cityscapes.
Donkervliet is an old polder area between Baambrugge and Loenersloot. The water is probably the river Angstel. There used to be a country estate called Donkervliet. Owner of this pleasure estate in the 17th century was lord Gijsbert van Hogendorp. After it fell into disrepair, it was rebuilt in the 20th century.

Jan Sluijters junior lived in Loenersloot for a while.
