- Joannes Franciscus Maria Frenken (Vught, July 24, 1941) is a Dutch artist and teacher.
Life and work
Frenken comes from a family of artists. Three of his five brothers also practiced the profession: Jacques Frenken (1929), Ton Frenken (1930-2004) and Maarten Frenken (1935). Frenken studied at the Sint Joost Academy in Breda and the Jan van Eijck Academy in Maastricht. To finance his studies, Frenken travelled the world to work as a cook on seagoing vessels. In the early sixties, Frenken settled in Amsterdam where he still lives and works in his studio and where he also teaches drawing and painting.
