6x beautiful hand-signed etchings by the Belgian painter, draftsman, etcher, and burin engraver Gustaaf Christiaan De Bruyne (1914 - 1987).
He received his artistic training at the Academy of Mechelen and the National Higher Institute in Antwerp, under the guidance of G. Van De Woestyne and J. De Bruycker. De Bruyne's work included figures, compositions with nudes, portraits, and landscapes. His painting style combined the refinement of G. Van De Woestyne with the cerebral, sculptural forms of A. Carte. Symbolist-pessimistic works were created during the Second World War, which took on a surrealist slant from 1945 onwards. He created a dreamlike world with fantasy and idealized figures and objects in a magical-realistic-rural context. The female nude was one of his favorite subjects.
In addition to his paintings, De Bruyne was also a refined burin engraver and a perfectionist in terms of detail. He was a teacher at the Antwerp Academy from 1946 to 1977. His works can be found in museums in Brussels, Antwerp, and Mechelen.
