Frans de Wit was born in Veldhoven on 14 November 1901 and died in Sint-Oedenrode on 9 April 1981.
Johannis Franciscus Henricus de Wit was co-founder of the painters' group Verve in 1951, which brought a new impetus to painting. Frans de Wit was self-taught. De Wit worked in The Hague from 1949 to 1960, where he was a member of Pulchri Studio, the Haagse Kunstkring, the Posthoorngroep, Fugare and Verve. In 1960 he moved to Son en Breugel.
Since 1957, De Wit lived with the sculptor Jos van Riemsdijk on their farm in Nijnsel.
