Signed Ro, Numbered Lo Number, HC, Title Mo, Size within passe-partout: 55 x 55 Cm, Description: Fon Klement, the Amsterdam-born artist Fon Klement (1930 – 2000) is self-taught. After a short period in which he gained respect as a figurative painter and woodcarver, the first multi-coloured graphic sheets were created in 1960 in the technique that is now so typical of him: the relief print Boardcut. Recognisable formal elements gradually made way for more abstract motifs in a sober colour programme. An overview of this work was on display in the Museum van Bommel-van Dam in Venlo in 1980. This exhibition was one of the reasons for Fon Klement to start painting again. In September 1990, on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday, new work was exhibited in the Singer Museum in Laren. At the same time, a book with graphics, paintings and drawings was published. In addition to exhibitions, his oeuvre can be seen at travelling graphic exhibitions. Since 1961, Fon Klement was a member of Xylon, the international association of woodcutters, which regularly shows graphics throughout Europe. The exhibition “Prints Today in the USA” with an overview of graphics by Dutch artists, including Fon Klement, traveled through the United States for many years. During the Graphic Art Biennial “Graphic Now” in Laren in the autumn of 1990, and later at the first international Graphic Art Biennial in Maastricht, which was held during the summer of 1993, Fon Klement was awarded the public prize.
