  • The graphic artist and designer Félix Bracquemond (1833-1914) became famous with the decoration of a tableware that was the first to borrow motifs from Japanese printmaking. Birds, fish and plants depicted on the tableware also appear frequently in his graphic work. In his own time he was known as an 'animalier', animal graphic artist. Bracquemond was interested in new and unusual techniques, such as color etching, in both decorative art and graphics. He was often consulted by contemporaries such as Degas, Manet, Gauguin and Rodin on technical problems, as a result of which he played a central role in the development and flourishing of graphics and applied arts in France in the second half of the 19th century.
