Ed van der Kooy - Bombay agency

The Hague painter Ed van der Kooy uses his adventurous travels through Asia as a theme for his colourful paintings. He is particularly influenced by the culture of the mountain state of Nepal, where he has been visiting almost every year since 1978. Here the painter was given the honourable task of painting his daughter by the then Nepalese king Mahendra. In addition to the direct representation of people he meets during his travels, Ed van der Kooy depicts Westerners surrounded by a completely different, Eastern culture. With great love for detail he shows the alienation, which has a strong dramatic and theatrical feel. He finds his models in his circle of friends. Sometimes colleagues are happy to play a role in his paintings. The beautiful Eastern garments in particular bear witness to his precise way of working and the many hours of painting work he spends on each canvas.
