Dick Ket - Special Edition - Eight drawings by Dick Ket € 85 - Sold

At the turn of the year 1964-1965, publisher Gebr. Zomers en Keuning (Vada printing house) in close collaboration with the Gemeentemuseum Arnhem, published a folder with 8 loose drawings by Dick Ket, executed in the copper intaglio printing process. It was a limited edition exclusively for relations of the publisher / printer.

Joh. Mekkink, curator of the Gemeentemuseum in Arnhem, wrote the text about Dick Ket and the drawings, printed in both Dutch and English. On the back of each engraving is mentioned the drawing number of the Vada map, the origin and the printing process.

Rare.
In the meantime, the few folders that have survived for almost 60 years have become a collector's item. This applies to editions about Vincent Van Gogh, Isaac Israels and Jan Toorop and certainly also to the folder on offer. Between 2017 and the present, only 4 copies of this edition were sold at Kunstveiling. While the folders have mostly discoloured over time, the copper intaglio prints are still in good condition. Where it seems that there are age spots on an intaglio print, this is because they were on the original.

Intaglio printing is a fascinating and versatile printing technique with a rich history and a wide range of applications. Such as the copper intaglio printing presses that Drukkerij Vada had between 1962 and 1981. A graphic printing technique in which the design is engraved on a copper printing cylinder. This process offers a unique combination of precision, detail and texture that is difficult to imitate with other printing techniques. The total costs of intaglio printing are very high for small editions because engraving the cylinder is very expensive.
