Daniël den Dikkenboer was born in Rotterdam on 16 September 1918. After wandering through Amsterdam and Paris, he settled permanently in Rotterdam in 1950, where he died on 27 November 1979. He was a student at the Rotterdam Academy of Fine Arts and Technical Sciences, department of publicity and applied arts, under the supervision of Jac. Jongert and Dick Elffers. Here he obtained the silver academy medal. Initially he painted, drew, watercoloured and made gouaches in both figurative and abstract styles. Gradually he specialised in graphics, he was a sculptor and monumental artist. In the Netherlands his work is represented in the Museum Boymans in Rotterdam and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and Schiedam
