Adèle Koekkoek - “Woman at the Hearth”. Oil on wooden board/panel. Signed "A KOEKKOEK". Adèle Koekkoek, born Adelaide Alexandrine Koekkoek (born 28 October 1838 in Kleve, † 1919 in Koblenz), was a German painter of landscapes and still lifes. Adèle came from the Dutch family of Koekkoek painters. The artist was the fourth of five daughters of the painter Barend Cornelis Koekkoek and Elise Therese Daiwaille, among whom Maria Louise Koekkoek, and granddaughter of the painter Johannes Hermanus Koekkoek. She mainly painted flower still lifes in the style of her mother, but also landscapes. Her works were made between 1853 and 1919. A number of her works can be seen in the BC Huis Koekkoek in Kleve (Still life with flowers and fruit, 1873) and in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam. The Adèle Koekkoeks family emigrated to the United States in the early 20th century. In 2016, a collection of Koekkoek artworks from local descendants returned to the BC Huis Koekkoek, including a childhood portrait of Adèle painted by her grandfather Jean Augustin Daiwaille.
