Zero

Zero is a movement in modern art that comes from Germany. It was a European variant of Colorfield Painting in which large areas of color or color fields are used. Artists belonging to the Zero group, however, usually work in monochrome, often with white. In this way they strived for a new harmony in the relationship between man and nature, and avoided individual traces in their art. The name Zero was supposed to remind us of the countdown for the launch of a rocket. The Zero group maintained numerous international contacts, in the Netherlands the Zero movement was represented by the members of the Dutch Zero movement. The characteristics within the Zero group are light, movement and monochrome painting. Nail, relief and ribbed surfaces were also used to play with light and shadow.
