The Vereniging voor Penningkunst has been in existence since 1925 and their collection of medals grows on average by one to three medals each year. The association promotes modern medal art with an annual issue of medals specially designed for the association. The association also organizes exhibitions and lectures. From 1977 they publish the magazine De Beeldenaar.
