Founded in 1913 - dissolved in 1943
Within the Vereeniging Sint Lucas in Amsterdam, a power struggle raged between conservative members, 'the brown' and modern members, 'the blue'. It was the time of luminism. Shadows were usually painted brown or grayish, but many artists began to do their paintings in lighter colors more and more. The shadows now turned bluish or greenish. This is also where the distinction between 'the brown' and 'the blue' came from. The modern members decided to resign and a number of them founded the Hollandse Kunstskring.
