He was best known for his classic Dutch seascapes with ships. He learned the trade at the Haagsche Teekenschool and was praised for his detailed and realistic depiction of ships, turbulent seas and Dutch skies. He knew how to combine these elements into one impressive scene like no other. Schiedges thus followed in the footsteps of well-known marine painters.
