Jozef van Acker (1937)

Jozef van ACKER (Waasmunster, 1937)

Sculptor. Education at the Academy in Dendermonde under Jos De Decker. Finds his inspiration in the human figure, the female nude. Works in wood, stone, terracotta. From the press: JVA's sculptures look around the human figure, who approaches reality through a certain poetry, a certain humanization of a reality that cannot always be beautiful and good. In this interpretation of the figure, he shows the internalization rather than the outward appearance of his model. He approaches each of them with respect and warmth and often tries to subordinate the figurative to the human message he wants to convey with flowing forms. In recent years, JVA has built up a versatile oeuvre, both monumental and in small format. Realized works commissioned by the Municipalities of Sint-Niklaas, Temse, Waasmunster. Was a member of the "Art Circle Waasmunster". Was a teacher at the youth studio of the Academy in Waasmunster. Exhibited at the Art Center «'t Hof te Puttens» in Lede in 1997, participated in the Seventh Triennial of Sculpture» at Campo and Campo» in Antwerp in 1998. Mentioned in “Two Centuries Signatures of Belgian Artists”.
