1876-1969 Dooijewaard was born in Amsterdam in 1876 as the son of the painter Aalt Dooijewaard and Christina Harberts. Dooijewaard was educated at the Applied Arts School Quellinus Amsterdam (1891-1893) and at the State Normal School for Drawing Instructors (1894-1898) in Amsterdam. His teachers were Jan Derk Huibers and Jan Visser. Dooijeweer painted genre and figure scenes, portraits, still lifes, winter scenes and cityscapes. In 1903 his work was awarded the Willink van Collen Prize for the first time. Initially, Dooijewaard worked in Amsterdam. From 1903 he settled in Het Gooi and worked there in Laren and Blaricum. He made several study trips in and outside Europe. His work was also awarded after 1903, not only in the Netherlands, but also in Chile (Grand Prix of Santiago) and the United States. Dooijewaard was a member of several art companies, such as Arti et Amicitiae and the Artists Association Sint Lucas in Amsterdam, Pulchri Studio in The Hague and the Gooische Schildersvereniging. Work by Dooijewaard can be found in the Singer Museum Laren, among others. He was friends with the couple William and Anna Singer. Dooijewaard was one of the founders of the museum. In addition to the Singer Museum, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam also devoted an honorary exhibition to his work. Dooijewaard was an Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau[1] and Knight 1st class in the Order of Saint Olaf. He was an honorary member of the American International Academy of Art. Dooijwaard died in November 1969 at the age of 93 in Blaricum. His brother Willem was also a painter.
