The couple became known as the artist duo Frans de Boer (Amsterdam 1942 - Ouderkerk aan de Amstel 2016) Marja Lichtveld (Velsen-Zuid 1941-)
The duo De Boer Lichtveld is known for their sculptural and kinetic works. Both studied at the Institute for Applied Arts Education, the predecessor of the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. Initially they worked separately, but from 1970 they decided to operate as a duo and work together on projects.
Their oeuvre includes a wide range of works, including light art and monumental sculptures, often executed in stainless steel and aluminum. They made both autonomous works of art and commissions for public space. Their style is characterized by a playful interaction between geometric and organic forms, with a strong emphasis on movement and light reflection. In 2018, Museum Jan van der Togt in Amstelveen dedicated an extensive retrospective to the duo, entitled "Frans & Marja de Boer Lichtveld - An image of 45 years of working together
