Alessi (1921)

Alessi (1921)

In 1921, the Italian metalworking workshop Alessi was founded by Giovanni Alessi Anghini, who made his own products from 1924. In the 1950s, soft metals were slowly replaced by stainless steel, a material that was used on a large scale. During this period, Alessi begins to collaborate more with external designers.

Alessi now aims to translate design and functionality into high quality mass production. This idea was introduced in the 1970s by Giovanni's grandson Alberto, who wanted to reduce the friction between mass production and craft. We are therefore looking for ways to combine creativity and individuality with the wishes of the market. Today, the international design company works not only with metals, but also with ceramics, wood and plastics. Utensils are designed in collaboration with designers, historians and consumers.
